Prius Plug-In

Prius Plug-in and Online Order System

Frequently Asked Questions

When and where will the Prius Plug-in be available?

The Prius Plug-in will be available starting in the spring of 2012 in 15 launch states:  Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii*, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.  Availability will open up to all other states in 2013.

*Prius Plug-in online ordering will not be available in Hawaii.

Why were these states selected first?

There are three key reasons why Toyota selected these 15 states at launch:

·        Most of the launch states have regulatory statutes that require Toyota sells a minimum number of very low emissions vehicles in the state.

·        The launch states contain 60% of our Prius owner population to date.

·        Focusing on only specific states at launch allows Toyota time to build up production capacity to meet demand in the rest of the country by 2013.

My dealership is not in a launch state.  When will I get my first vehicles?

Our plan is to distribute Prius Plug-in nationally by 2013.

Can a customer outside of the first 15 states buy a vehicle in 2012?

Customers outside of the first 15 states can buy a Prius Plug-in; however, they must take delivery from a dealer within one of the 15 launch states (or receive a unit via a G-category trade from a launch state dealer).

Will dealers outside of the 15 launch states be able to service the Prius Plug-in?

Dealers across the country will have access to the training and tools required to service a Prius Plug-in around the time of the initial retail deliveries.

Why is Toyota launching an Online Order System?

The target customer will generally be affluent, highly educated, and extremely knowledgeable about the product.  They will expect a purchase experience that is as advanced and convenient as the product itself.  Based on our positive customer response with the order system for the 1st and 2nd Generation Prius, Toyota believes this is a consumer-centric solution that offers a convenient and advanced purchase experience to meet the needs of this unique customer.

If a customer wants a Prius Plug-in, what should they do?

Customers signed up for priority registration should order the vehicle online, using our Online Order System.  Those who are not preregistered can use our dealer locator tool to find a dealer in their area and check offline availability.  Alternatively, customers can sign up at Toyota.com/prius-plug-in to be notified by email should online ordering open up to the general public.

What is the customer benefit of signing up for the Priority Registration?

By pre-registering customers will be allowed to place an advance order for a Prius Plug-in, ahead of the general public, from a dealership within the 15 launch states.

Customers who have not signed up for priority registration must wait until after the Priority Order Window has closed to place an order, and can only do so if there are remaining vehicles available.

When will customers be allowed to order their Prius Plug-in? When does the Priority Order Window open?

The Priority Order Window is scheduled to open in October.  A firm date will be announced later.

Will the dealer have a role in the new Online Order System?

Absolutely.  Each customer will ultimately conduct their transaction with the dealer of their choice.  The order system will be designed to facilitate this transaction, and provide new vehicle tracking services for the customer.

Are registrants required to select a dealership?

Yes, customers must select their dealer prior to placing the order.  Please note that registered customers can still select a dealership at any time.

Will the retail product be the same as the 2010 MY demonstration Prius Plug-in units? When will retail product information be available?

No, the retail product will include some improvements over the demonstration vehicle.  Toyota expects to be able to share product and price information with dealers and consumers starting September 16, 2011.
