Safety Features and Warranty

When it comes to having and keeping total peace of mind, your included safety features and warranty are of top concern. No matter which vehicle you choose, the Prius and Civic Hybrid both offer electronic stability and traction control, height-adjustable front seatbelts with pretensioners, front-wheel drive, four-wheel antilock brakes, and a full system of airbags. The Prius adds in a few critical features that the Civic Hybrid doesn’t offer, like an optional Pre-Collision System and pre-crash front seatbelts, standard Active Headrests, and available Safety Connect technology. The Prius also received slightly higher crash test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Additionally, Toyota includes all scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 25,000 miles; Honda does not offer this. Toyota also has nearly 20 percent more dealerships, which makes maintenance visits more convenient for many drivers.

Power and Efficiency

For hybrids, power and efficiency is a balancing act. Why sacrifice power if you don’t have to? The Prius is equipped with a 1.8L DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid motor that delivers 134 hp and 153 lb-ft of torque that can go from 0 mph to 60 mph in just 10.6 seconds. The Civic Hybrid is equipped with a 1.5L SOHC 4-cylinder hybrid motor that delivers 110 hp and 127 lb-ft of torque that can take the vehicle from 0 mph to 60 mph in 10.9 seconds. Overall, the Prius offers a faster, more powerful drivetrain. The Prius also gets better fuel economy—51 city and 48 highway versus 44 city and 47 highway for the Civic Hybrid.

Ergonomics and Design

Loving your car starts with loving the overall design and ergonomics in the cabin. The Prius offers smart ergonomic details that the Civic Hybrid can’t match, like available remote start, available heads-up display, one-touch power windows, rear wiper, available headlight washers, available automatic dimming, heated outside mirrors, and optional Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. The Civic Hybrid also runs into a few problems with a glitch-prone starter.
